Since 1 January 2025, there has been a new government measure in force for all companies operating in Belgian ports. This measure requires us to carry out a security check for anyone who wants to work for us.

What is a safety verification?
This is a check carried out by the police and security services to determine if someone is suitable to work in critical functions within the harbor. These roles are of great importance as they often provide access to key cargo or sensitive information. The investigation for this verification involves consulting various databases.
Why is this verification necessary?
The reason for this verification lies in the necessity to keep persons with criminal connections out of our ports. Corrupt ties within logistics and shipping companies form a weak link in the fight against international drug trafficking and the smuggling of people and animals. We use security verifications to ensure the safety of our employees and business operations.
What do we look at during the verification?
The focus is on serious offenses such as drug crimes, gang formation, and smuggling. Minor offenses such as traffic fines or small personal conflicts are not considered, unless they are directly relevant to the role.
